We are not a food magazine, but we are tied to food in a way.  Where the table sits, and a feast is spread out; we congregate. And at the table: we share stories.
We are not a food magazine or recipe outlet. We seek literary work in poetry (translations as well), fiction (generally short stories or flash fiction), and creative nonfiction (essays or memoir-esque excerpts). Please understand that we do not want to focus on food themed work. That's like thinking that Prairie Schooner only focuses on work concerning nautical vessels and land features. We do use food and beverage as a means to unite people for fundraising efforts and have a social justice angle with food and nourishment.
The Founder & Managing Editor makes three donations to charities or nonprofits tied to food or nourishment - which is open to interpretation. We match a percent of three separate totals and make said donations. The three amounts we match a percentage with are Genral Submission payout total, alternative contest payout total, and major contest payout total.
Starting with issue four, we will be charging submission fees for 2 of 3 of our contests. General submissions will not require submission fees but if you'd like to make a minimum three-dollar donation, that will help us sustain the magazine. The payouts have been reduced so we can still offer payment and come up with funds to print issue four in 2025.
Issue 3 is available as PDF and print copies arrive in the Spring of 2025.
Contests open November 12th, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. Central US time.
General Submissions open 12:00 am on Janury 1st, 2025 - wherever you may be.
